Weak live viruses and bacteria or also
known as live attenuated are antigens within the vaccines. All vaccines have
antigens since these are essential in making them work. They evoke the body to
create an immune response in order to form the protection needed for the
disease (1). The immune response they invoke is really good since it is close to
the response a person would have experienced if they actually had the disease (3).
These weak live pathogens are changed
in a lab setting in order they do not cause harm (1). They will grow within
someone who is vaccinated but not cause disease but if they do it will be mild
(3). However, these pathogens do have a minor change to revert back to their
original pathogenic form and cause disease. For this very reason people with
compromised immune systems are not able to receive vaccines with these pathogens
inside them (3).
