Conjugate vaccines are used to combat bacterial infections. The bacterial antigens that are used for the vaccines are covered in an outer-coating of
polysaccharides. The coating that covers the antigens makes it harder for young children's immune system to recognize the eptiopes and form a response against it. To make it the vaccine that a child's immature will create a response, the coated epitope is connected to an antigen that is known to create a strong response by the immune system.
